On November 17th, 2020, the American Principles Project filed an FEC Complaint against Facebook for its actions during the U.S. Senate Race between Gary Peters and John James in Michigan.

By fact-checking a political ad involving transgender sports, Facebook allegedly made an in-kind contribution to the U.S. Senatorial Campaign of incumbent candidate Gary Peters.

The race between Gary Peters and John James has been extremely close, and is still contested. https://www.metrotimes.com/news-hits/archives/2020/11/20/republican-senate-candidate-john-james-urges-state-canvassers-to-delay-certification
